Do I have to have any singing experience or knowledge before I start taking lessons?
Not at all. You don’t need any previous singing experience, training, or musical knowledge to work with us. In fact, sometimes starting from scratch can be an advantage because we’re not having to undo long-standing habits or techniques that may not have worked for you—or may have been taught or applied incorrectly.
Whether you’ve been singing your whole life or you’re just beginning to explore your voice, we start exactly where you are.
Do I need to know how to read music?
No. You do not need to know how to read music to sing. Singing is one of the most natural things humans do—babies do it!
If you already read music, that can certainly be helpful, but we typically don’t work from sheet music. You’re here to learn to use your voice with more strength, confidence, freedom, and control..
Do I have to come once a week or commit to a schedule?
No. You are completely in control of your schedule. Once you’re a client, you schedule your own sessions through our online booking system and can move or cancel appointments yourself up to 24 hours in advance.
Come when it works for you. You can book sessions individually, schedule several in advance, or set up a regular weekly time if you prefer. There is no required weekly schedule.
How often should I come to get the best results?
There’s no one schedule that works for everyone, but the more consistently you work with your voice, the faster you’re likely to see lasting results. Your voice is a physical instrument, and regular practice helps build strength, coordination, and consistency.
If you want faster progress, come more often. If your schedule or budget requires more space between sessions, that’s okay too. We’ll meet you where you are and help you get the most out of the time you have.
Can I take lessons with my friend, child, or significant other?
No. Private voice sessions are always one-on-one. Developing your voice is an incredibly personal process, and your instructor needs to be able to hear your individual voice clearly at all times.
You also need the freedom to experiment, make bad noises, get loud, be bold, and sometimes feel uncomfortable in a comfortable, safe space. You wouldn’t get the full value of a private session if your instructor’s attention—and your lesson time—were divided between two voices.
Your session is your space, your voice, and your time.
Can I split one session between two people?
No. Our 50-minute private sessions are designed for one person, and that amount of time is intentional. A 25-minute session simply isn’t enough time to warm up, introduce new instruction, work through it, and then apply what you’ve learned.
We don’t want you to spend your entire session doing exercises. Whenever possible, we want time to apply what you’re learning to an actual song—because ultimately, singing is why you’re here.
Splitting a session in half would significantly reduce the value of the lesson for both people. If two people want to work with us, each person needs their own session.
STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?
Good. That’s what we’re here for. Email us and tell us a little about what you’re looking for, what you’re experiencing with your voice, or what’s making you nervous about getting started. We’ll personally get back to you with information about working with us.
